EVEN SUCH IS TIME, St. Louis Chamber Chorus, Concert 2

In this concert, the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus showcases the intersection of the musical arts and the visual arts, specifically photography.  The Chorus will marry several pieces recounting the effects of time with the works of photographer Jacob Buchowski.  A large screen above the choir will display images which complement the lyrics and music of a number of pieces, including “Trionfo del Tempo” by Italian Renaissance composer, Orlandus Lassus.  Buchowski, who is also an orthopedic surgeon in St. Louis, will be at the performance. 
 
British and Irish composers will be well represented on the program.  Ralph Vaughan Williams' “Silence and Music” will open the concert, while Ireland's Charles Villiers Stanford contributes his “On Time” for double choir.  The Chamber Chorus will also sing ”Music, When Soft Voices Die” by England's Rebecca Clarke.  This will possibly be the St. Louis premiere of Clarke's work.  Her music is unfamiliar to many, having not been published until 2003, decades after her death in 1979.  The audience will also hear music by Bob Chilcott and Geoffrey Bush.  

Finally, the Chamber Chorus will present the world premiere of “A Song for St. Cecilia's Day,” by English composer Stuart McIntosh, performed close to the feast day itself.  This extensive work, scored for eight parts and a semi-chorus, sets to music an ode written by John Dryden in 1739.  McIntosh, a former assistant conductor for the Chorus, will fly to St. Louis for the first performance of the work he has composed specially for the Chorus.
