			<description>Veterans Curation Program
(5-9-2012)
In 2009, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Center of Expertise for the Curation and Management of Archeological Collections (CX-CMAC) began a unique program, the Veterans Curation Program (VCP), to provide veterans with tangible work skills through the rehabilitation and preservation of archaeological collections, and to advance the public stewardship of federally owned archaeological collections. During their training, veterans acquire and advance skills in a variety of areas—including database management, software proficiency, and records management—that are necessary to thrive in today’s workforce. The impact of the Veterans Curation Program on transitioning veterans is the focus of this VetNet broadcast.
Three veterans from the St. Louis VCP laboratory will be sharing their experience with the program. From 1990 to 2000 Crystal Soto served in the U.S. Army National Guard and U.S. Army as an administrative and logistical specialist. Victor Plancarte is an Operation Enduring Freedom veteran who served the Marine Corps from 2007 to 2011 as a logistics vehicle system operator. As a Marine Corps infantry rifleman, Steve Wahle was also deployed to Afghanistan and served from 2001 to 2005. In addition to covering the VCP’s background, and goals and objectives, these veterans will discuss their military experiences, how they became involved with the VCP, their future plans, what this opportunity has meant for them, and how other veterans can pursue employment and training at the VCP.

<description>(Jan. 10, 2011) History of the Soldiers' Memorial Military Museum located in Downtown St. Louis.
The initiative to construct a memorial plaza and memorial building to honor the gallant sons and daughters of Missouri, and of our city, who "made the supreme sacrifice in the World War", began in 1923. Over the course of several years, the City of St. Louis and its citizens raised money for the project. Under the leadership of Mayor Bernard F. Dickmann, and with some funds coming from the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works (Project No. 5098), the construction of the building, development of the memorial plaza, and improvements to the parks began on October 21, 1935 and the memorial and museum officially opened on Memorial Day, May 30, 1938.
