Coin-Operated Radio
Thanks in part to the pioneering work of record label Saddle Creek, Omaha, Nebraska has become an unlikely mecca of indie rock. Cursive rewrites the rules of that movement; they played an exclusive acoustic set on Coin-Operated Radio.

On the 2009 release, Mama, I'm Swollen, the veteran Omaha band lurches from smoky lounge pop to alt-country shuffles to torrentially grungy climaxes, sometimes in the same song. What holds it all together is singer and songwriter Tim Kasher's brutal lyrical honesty, whether he's aiming his pen at the dogmas of religion, romantic anguish or the "mass upward mobility" of consumer culture. The band performed at Firebird on April 24, 2009.
