Islands: Live at KDHX 7/14/10
islands.jpg vid_audio_icon.gif Like a magpie drawn to shiny baubles, a listener can be lured to Islands for its off-kilter world with glittery beats tucked inside catchy hooks. Dynamic front man Nick Diamonds and guitarist Geordie Gordon brought their pleasantly strange musical stylings to town with an acoustic stop at KDHX and Bittersweet Melody

At home in a number of different musical milieus, Islands have recently settled into an airier form of pop, albeit one laced with a sort of lo-fi space-age aesthetic. The group is steadily working to carve out its own niche in the delightful and sometimes darkly quirky world of neo-psychedelic rock. Specifically, Islands craft songs with an intangible quality of musical magical realism, mixing the routine and the unexpected with a healthy dose of synthesizers, of course. There’s something sweetly sad about the resulting mixtures. The group is currently touring promoting their latest album, Vapours, released last September on the Anti label.
