Stace England & the Salt Kings: Live at KDHX 2/19/10 |
On the surface, Stace England & the Salt Kings serve up eerie power pop rooted in Americana. Underneath the music, however, you'll find lessons on Midwest history and folklore. Traveling from the deepest woods of rural southern Illinois -- Cobden, to be exact – the band visited the inimitable Bob’s Scratchy Records for a live session.

England’s career began in Chicago in the early '90s with his seminal roots/country ensemble, House Afire. Since that time, England has drifted around ghost towns of southern Illinois, soaking in his environment’s tradition and culture, and channeling that inspiration into what has become an American History major’s ideal folk rock band.
Backed by the Salt Kings (Ron Johnson on bass, Charlie Tabing on guitar, Dana Spalt on drums), England has been touring in support of his latest album, The Amazing Oscar Micheaux. The album tells the story of Micheaux, an early 1900s African American filmmaker and author from Metropolis, Illinois
