Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates

Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates is an uplifting holiday celebration of family, generosity and an exhilarating tale of courage and determination that culminates with a spectacular speed skating race on St. Nicholas Day.

This modern interpretation has been adapted by House of Cards screenwriter Laura Eason. Set on the ice-covered canals of 19th century Holland, Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates is the story of siblings Hans and Gretel Brinker, who strive to provide for their family and prove their own worth by entering a local speed skating contest—first prize is a pair of gleaming silver skates. The original novel by Mary Mapes Dodge has been in consistent print since 1865, and introduced the sport of speed skating in the United States.
