The Golden Age of Exoplanet Discovery - Dr. Peter Plavchan, Missouri State University
More than 3,500 planets are now known to be orbiting other stars. Millions more within our Milky Way galaxy still wait to be discovered. Most of these exoplanets have been found during the past few years. Most have been detected indirectly; a few have been photographed directly. Dr. Plavchan will talk about the nature of exoplanets, how they are detected, and why this is the golden age of exoplanet discovery. Co-sponsored by St. Louis Astronomical Society and the NASA Missouri Space Grant Consortium at Washington University.
